What Causes Joint Pain All Over the Body?

Joint pain throughout the body can have many possible causes. Common reasons include viral infections, autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis or lupus, osteoarthritis affecting multiple joints, gout, fibromyalgia, or inflammatory conditions. In some cases, widespread joint pain may also be linked to certain medications or underlying medical conditions. If you experience persistent joint pain in multiple joints—especially if it's accompanied by fever, swelling, unexplained weight loss, or severe fatigue—it's important to seek medical evaluation.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), rheumatoid arthritis affects about 1.3 million adults in the United States. Because rheumatoid arthritis is a systemic autoimmune disease, it commonly causes pain, stiffness, and swelling in multiple joints throughout the body.
