Honoring Migraine Awareness Month with Empathy, Education, and Encouragement

June marks Migraine Awareness Month, a time to talk about something that affects over a billion people around the world. That’s right. A billion. And if you’re one of them, know this: you’re absolutely not alone.
What Migraine Really Feels Like
A migraine isn’t just a headache.
For many, they’re invisible battles that come with pain, exhaustion, and frustration, especially when no one else can see what you’re going through. So, What Actually Causes Migraines? If only there were a simple answer. Migraines are tricky, they don’t usually stem from just one cause. Instead, it’s often a mix of things like:
Genetics – If your family has a history of migraines, chances are you’ve inherited that unfortunate gift. Some people’s brains are just more sensitive to everyday triggers like light, noise, or stress.
Hormones – Many women notice migraines show up like clockwork with their cycle, pregnancy, or menopause. Estrogen fluctuations can make a big impact.
Stress & Sleep – Mental or physical stress and poor sleep can throw your brain chemistry out of whack—often leading straight to migraine town.
Sensory Overload – Too much brightness, noise, or even strong smells? That can push your nervous system over the edge.
Food & Drinks – Some usual suspects: chocolate, cheese, red wine, caffeine, and ultra-processed snacks.
Weather Changes – Yes, even Mother Nature can be a trigger. Shifts in pressure or temperature can stir up trouble.
We know how overwhelming this all sounds. At Soothie Hoodie, we’ve been there. That feeling of being completely fine one minute… and then suddenly needing to shut out the world.
This Month, Let’s Try a New Approach
Let’s stop pretending we’re fine when we’re not.
Let’s stop pushing through the pain like it’s some kind of badge of honor.
This month, what if we did things differently? What if we talked about what we’re going through, really talked. What if we shared the little things that help… even just a little. What if we gave ourselves permission to pause, to breathe, to ask for help without guilt?
That’s the heart behind the Soothie Hoodie.
